A partnership between Greenfield Union School District and CSU Bakersfield

Welcome to the Kern Teacher Residency website

The Kern Teacher Residency is a year-long teacher preparation program dedicated to the support and training of teacher candidates, (Residents). Through our partnership with CSU Bakersfield, we offer residents the opportunity to complete their credential coursework and clinical practice all within the Greenfield Union School District. Our classes are co-taught by faculty from both CSU Bakersfield and Greenfield, making the content relevant to what is occurring in the classrooms that the residents are placed in.  Residents are carefully selected and matched to highly skilled mentor teachers who will guide and train them through co-planning, co-teaching and by having reflective conversations to provide valuable feedback. Our Mentor Teachers receive on-going monthly training on how to provide the very best support. Teacher candidates participating in a residency program are more likely to stay in the teaching profession because they feel more confident, and are better prepared when they get a classroom of their own. Residents also develop lasting bonds with their cohort group, the teachers they work with, as well as site administrators. Greenfield Union School District embraces this camaraderie with our district-wide focus on Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). Teachers collaborate and work together to build their capacity to increase student achievement. This is truly the best pathway to become a teacher!

Mission

The Kern Teacher Residency is dedicated to recruiting and retaining diverse individuals with the cultural competency to connect with the Greenfield community and make a significant impact on preparing our students socially, emotionally, and academically for the 21st century.

Goals

To Increase teacher effectiveness and retention by:

Because the greatest factor in student achievement is an effective teacher.
